Wirral
Wirral has a number of important visitor attractions some of which have an international appeal such as Port Sunlight Village and the Mersey Ferries with strong linkages to the Liverpool offer. Mersey Ferries are a key partner drawing over 500,000 people each year across the river. Wirral has a 12% share of all Merseyside hotel nights.
Wirral has a well-respected events programme, and in 2006 staged the Open Golf championship at Hoylake. Golf remains a major focus of activity and the feasibility of a Golf Resort hotel is being considered. It is vital that Wirral businesses work together to improve the quality of the visitor experience as well as taking advantage of the opportunities that become available.
Wirral's tourism strategy revolves around the concept of the Wirral Waterside Way - a string of exceptional attractions linked by world-class off-road waterfront walking and cycling. The first major tourism development for some years in Wirral opened in July 2005 - Spaceport, which saw 30,000 visits in the first six weeks of opening. There are exciting plans (at the public enquiry stage) to develop new leisure, retail and conference facilities in New Brighton.
There are many opportunities for Wirral tourism businesses to develop and grow through the exciting things that will be happening in the future so use this section to find out what has happened so far, what is planned and how you can get involved.
