Businesses based at a Merseyside stately home are celebrating a string of awards successes.

Four organisations on the Knowsley estate - home to The Earls of Derby since 1385 - have received prestigious honours in recent weeks.

Knowsley Safari Park has been named Britains top wildlife attraction by the Eden television channel which specialises in natural history programming.

The park beat off the challenge of eight other attractions, topping the viewer poll with more than 40 per cent of the votes cast, over twice as many as its nearest rival.

Meanwhile, the accommodation at Knowsley Hall has again received a five-star gold rating from inspectors at VisitEngland, the country’s official tourism website.

The hall is the only stately home in the country to hold this accreditation which recognises luxurious accommodation and excellent customer service.

This news follows hot on the heels of the halls success in the Mersey Partnership Tourism Awards in the summer, when it received the Guest Accommodation of the Year honour.

Knowsley Director of Operations, Edward Perry, commented: “Everyone is delighted at these awards successes which recognise the quality of the various organisations located here.”

This estate has a very proud history and, 600 years on, it’s gratifying to think that businesses based here are at the forefront of the tourism, leisure and even IT sectors, and making an important contribution to the local economy.
