Quality and excellence across Liverpool City Region’s Visitor Economy has been recognised in the much anticipated shortlist for the TMP Tourism Awards 2011, announced today (Wednesday, 27th April, 2011).
The annual awards are organised by TMP, Official Tourist Board for Liverpool City Region.
The TMP Tourism Awards 2011 will take place on Thursday, 26 May, at the BT Convention Centre, with a total of 15 awards presented on the evening.
Specialist judges have completed the first round of judging to review the achievements of more than 100 entrants from a wide variety of large and small tourism businesses to determine the shortlist (full list attached). The second round will include a series of judges visits and mystery shops to venues in selected categories.
Eleven category winners will then proceed to represent the region at the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence.
This year, the new category of ‘Culture and Heritage Experience’ replaces the performance venue category. Open to historic sites, museums, galleries and performance venues, as well as specific cultural programmes and events, this new category has proved very popular.
Liverpool City Region’s Visitor Economy currently generates visitor spend of £2.8billion and is estimated to support approximately 41,000 jobs a year.
TMP’s Visitor Economy Committee Chair and Liverpool Football Club Managing Director, Ian Ayre commented: “The TMP Tourism Awards recognise the hard work and commitment across the Visitor Economy sector. The large number of entries shortlisted this year is testament to the exceptional quality of excellence in the venues and attractions across the City Region. We are delighted to see such a diverse spectrum of venues represented in what is a very competitive industry.”
The awards are supported by Merseytravel, Liverpool ONE, ACC Liverpool and BBC Radio Merseyside.
