Research
England's Northwest Research Service for Economic Development and Tourism is an initiative led by The Mersey Partnership.
As the lead region for tourism and regeneration based research in the Northwest, England's Northwest Research Service delivers a comprehensive service designed to monitor the performance of the tourism industry in the Northwest.
We provide a range of market research services including satisfaction surveys, event evaluation, marketing evaluation, economic impact assessments and benchmarking to a range of clients across the whole of England's Northwest.
We are the key agency for collating tourism statistics on behalf of the North West Development Agency. This data is used to provide vital information on the economic impact of tourism in the region.
Analysis from the STEAM report in 2004 has shown that 58,660 million visitors to Merseyside spend a massive £1,083,850,000. Tourists spend £221,510,000 on food and drink, £148,410,000 shopping and £121,930,000 on hotel accommodation. The number of tourists has increased by 1,760,000 since 2003, which has increased tourism spend by an extra £10,480,000.
MOST visitors are day trippers but 19% of tourists stay overnight in the region. Many visitors come from other areas of the Northwest (38%) or other areas of the UK (27%). Staffordshire and Sheffield residents are more likely to visit Merseyside than any other region. (Merseyside Visitors Survey 2005).
