Management And Leadership

Management and Leadership skills or lack of them continue to be a problem within our industry with 54% of managers still not having the minimum level of qualification required for their position.  To help local businesses upskill their management staff The Mersey Partnership are offering two industry specific programmes – The Talent Programme and Executive Learning Workshops

The Talent Programme
Research continues to show that staff within the tourism, hospitality and leisure industries are promoted rapidly to supervisory and management positions but that little or no training is given to staff to support them in their new roles. The Talent Programme is a bespoke training programme for supervisors and first line managers working in the tourism and hospitality industries across Merseyside. To date 163 people have been through the programme with 108 gaining their management qualification at the end of it.  The programme offers a recognised management qualification and support through the qualification from industry mentors. Action for Tourism
Based on the very successful programme held in 2008 a new series of facilitated workshops will be available from September 2009 to help small and medium enterprises stand back from their business and see how they can raise their game to ensure their business gains a competitive edge.  With topic areas covering Managing the current economic situation and spotting opportunities, Innovation and maximising resources and Making the most of your staff these sessions promise to be both relevant and effective.

North West Leadership & Management Programme
If you are a leader/key manager, based and working in the North West, funding is available to support additional, relevant and challenging learning and development activity for North West companies. This is available for all sectors not just Tourism and Hospitality.
