Chefs Adopt A School

Founded in 1980, the Academy of Culinary Arts, is Britain's leading professional association of Head Chefs, Pastry Chefs, Restaurant Managers and suppliers.

While concerned with raising standards and awareness of food, food provenance, cooking and service, its objectives are equally focused on the new generation of young industry people through its education and training programmes and the provision of career opportunities.

The Academy are currently looking for chefs to support them in an initiative called 'Chefs Adopt a School'.

What is Chef's Adopt a School?
Chef's Adopt a School teaches respect for food, food provenance, nutrition, health and hygiene as well as cooking as a life skill. We know that the current approach towards Practical Food Education needs to be radically changed so that once again it has a secure place on the curriculum in Primary and Secondary schools.

Chef's Adopt a School follows an enthralling programme structured around workshop sessions suitable for young people from 5-18 which integrate well with Key Stages 1 - 4 of the National Schools Curriculum.

Our special needs schools enjoy the programme which is adapted to fit more precisely into their curriculum. We also welcome secondary schools for whom we are currently devising a more structured programme to complement their curriculum.

What is our special ingredient?
The unique Chefs Adopt a School ingredient is the presence of a real chef who 'adopts the school' and delivers the sessions.

The Chefs are members of the Academy of Culinary Arts who are leading professionals in this country and the idea came from them! They give their time voluntarily to teach because they want to pass on the passion that first brought them to the profession they love.

The Chef's Adopt a School programme does not rely on a kitchen - it's great if you have one, but an ordinary classroom is quite sufficient - you may well find that your chef is just as happy to run a session in his or her own kitchen. WE'LL MAKE THE INTRODUCTIONS AND WORK OUT THE STRUCTURE OF THE SESSIONS FOR YOU. THE CHILDREN WILL LOVE IT AND IT'S CERTAIN TO HELP THEM
