Strategic Skills

At a national, regional and local level, skills for the tourism and hospitality industries have never been more important. The Visitor Economy is still seen as a transformational sector with much opportunity and with London hosting the 2012 Olympics there is still a lot of work to be done to get Britain ready. In 2007, the then Tourism Minister Shaun Woodward MP launched the National Skills Strategy (see download at the side of this page), which sets out the national framework for the future and the key areas of activity that we still need to work on.

The key issues are Management and Leadership, Chef Skills and Customer Service and in addition locally here in the Liverpool City Region we have factored in destination awareness and language training.

You will also find information about The Mersey Partnership's own strategic skills initiatives in this section. Why not join our Tourism Employer Forum and have your say on skills?

This section also contains details of the Learning and Skills Council's Skills for Life, SkillWorks and Train to Gain funded training programmes.
