Working in Tourism & Hospitality in Merseyside
Quite often people are not sure of the job roles and opportunities offered by tourism and hospitality and the sector as a whole has suffered from a poor image for many years. This is changing as well known brand names are making their mark on the City Region and young people are starting see the opportunities for a worthwhile career.
Working with the Learning Skills Council, The Mersey Partnership produced an information booklet to showcase jobs in the industry. The aim of this booklet is to inform young people and returners to work of the opportunities and type of jobs available in the sector. It also attempts to reverse many of the negative stereotypes providing positive role models across a range of jobs.
The booklet covers a broad range of jobs including hotel manager, kitchen porter, housekeeper, marketing manager, chef, gallery assistant, tour guide and many more. For each position there is a case study of the individual covering what the job involves, training and development, job highlights, employment benefits etc along with a job specific photograph. The booklet features 29 different job roles and organisations across the Liverpool City Region to give the document local provenance and broad interest.
The booklet is full colour, glossy and very user friendly. The print run of 10,000 copies was distributed to schools, colleges, Job Centre Plus, Connexions and other agencies working with the unemployed.
